About

👋

My name is Jennifer Brook but you can call me Brook.

Research + Design Practice
I am taking a gap year (or two) to pursue independent creative projects.

From 2016-2019 I worked as a staff researcher at Dropbox where I investigated work futures and how our everyday ways of working can become more purposeful, equitable, and inclusive.

I create and facilitate weird workshops, gather and distill pigment, teach and practice participatory design, and make my own sketchbooks.

Teaching + Speaking
I've taught at SVA's MFA of Interaction Design, Parsons The New School Design+Technology MFA and BFA, and have spoken and facilitated workshops at conferences and universities all over the world.

Past Work
From 2009-2016, I worked for The New York Times and then ran my own research and strategy consultancy. Many people know me from my work at NYT as well as from leading their on-stage demo at Apple's iPad press conference.

Past Lives
Prior to NYC, I lived in Asheville, North Carolina where I cultivated an artist practice, ran a creative arts program at a rural healing farm, and facilitated the self-advocacy of older youth in foster care.

On Traveling
I'm a semi-pro funicular rider, slow-travel obsessive, and occasional semi-nomad.

My favorite way to travel is by motorbike. I've made several long-distance trips including a three-month, 5000km ride across Vietnam and Laos and New York City to Asheville via a Vespa.
