I create and facilitate weird workshops, gather and distill pigment, teach and practice human-centered design, and make my own sketchbooks.

I live in the Bay Area and work as a design researcher at Dropbox.

Teaching + Speaking
I've taught at SVA's MFA of Interaction Design, Parsons The New School Design+Technology MFA and BFA, and have spoken at and facilitated workshops at conferences and universities all over the world.

Past Work
Prior to relocating to the Bay Area, I was based in New York City (2009-2016) and ran my own research and strategy consultancy (2012-2016). Many people know me from my design work at The New York Times (2009-2011) as well as from leading an on-stage demo at an Apple press conference (2010).

Past Lives
Prior to NYC, I lived in Asheville, North Carolina (2003-2008) where I cultivated an artist practice, ran a creative arts program at a rural healing farm, and facilitated the self-advocacy of older youth in foster care. I also built and lived in a tree house.

On Traveling
I'm a semi-pro funicular rider, slow-travel obsessive, and occasional semi-nomad who has traveled, lived, and/or worked in over 40 countries including Italy, Botswana, Tunisia, El Salvador, and Colombia.

My favorite way to travel is by motorbike. I've made several long-distance trips including a three-month, 5000km jaunt across Vietnam and Laos and New York City to Asheville via a Vespa.

I want my next long-term journey to commence via a container ship at the port of Oakland — a place I ferry by on my way to work.
